The International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) was jointly
initiated and established by the Government of China,United Nations Development
Programme(UNDP) and other international organizations in May 2005.Based in
Beijing,the Center is aimed at exchanging experience in poverty
reduction,advancing progress of poverty reduction,organizing research on poverty
related theory,optimizing poverty reduction policies,strengthening international
exchanges on poverty reduction and facilitating international collaboration on
poverty reduction,IT was established to enhance the capacity of the
international community in the design and implementation of poverty reduction
policies,to revie,study and disseminate the good practices and to facilitate
international exchanges and collaboration in the area.
The Chinese Government attaches substantial
importance to the IPRCC
On September 14.2005,in his remarks
titled Common Prosperity through Prevalent Development to the UN 60th
Snniversary Summit on Development Funding,Chinese President Hu Jintao
announced:"The International Poverty Reduction Center in China was established
this May in Beijing with a mandate to contribute to worldwide poverty
reduction."
On December 12,2005,in his address
titled Joint Efforts in Building a Bright Future through Intensified
Collaboration to the 9th ASEAN+China,Japan and Korea Summit,Chinese Premier
Wen Jiabao stated:"UNDP established a regional poverty reduction center in
China,China will hold the second ASEAN+3 High-Level Seminar in 2006 devoted to
the collaboration aon poverty reduction with countries related."
