A New Act to Realize MDGs: The First International Seminar on Best Practices of Poverty Reduction in China

1st, IPRCC launched its first external assistance
program ---- the International Seminar on Best Practices
of Poverty Reduction in China which was attended by 53
intermediate government officials from 27 developing
countries covering Africa, Asia, Oceania (South Pacific)
and North America (Caribbean Areas) to learn from the
poverty reduction experiences in China. Zhang Lei,
Managing Director of IPRCC hosted the opening ceremony.
Wang Guoliang, Deputy Director General of LGOPAD
presented in the ceremony and delivered a speech.
¡¡¡¡On
September 14, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced in
the Summit of Development Fundraising of UN 60th
Anniversary that the International Poverty Reduction
Center in China was established in an aim to make a
contribution to the world poverty reduction. Apart from
that, the President put forward five new steps to
support other developing countries one of which is that
China will give trainings to 30 thousand talents from
developing countries so as to help speed up human
resource development in these countries. The seminar is
an honor of the President¡¯s commitment to the world and
another step to support other developing countries.
¡¡¡¡The seminar spans for 15 days, covering the following
subjects: China National Economic and Social
Development, Retrospect and Prospect of Poverty
Reduction in China, Pro-poor Policies in China,
Introduction of One-body-two-wings Poverty Reduction
Strategy, etc. The resource persons invited were Zhang
Lei, Director of Finance Department of LGOPAD and
Managing Director of IPRCC, Wen Tiejun, Dean of
Agricultural and Rural Development School with China
Agriculture University, Li Xiaoyun, Dean of Humanities
and Development with China Agriculture University, Ou
Qingping, Deputy Director of State Council LGOPAD Center
of Foreign Funded Projerct and Wang Xingzui, Deputy
Executive Director of China Foundation for Poverty
Alleviation. The seminar took on various forms like
lecturing, experience introduction, case study, field
trip and participatory discution. Through the trainings,
the trainees were expected to have an overall
understanding of China¡¯s economic and social
development, agrarian issues, poverty reduction policies
and practices so that they could apply these experience
back in their own countries.
¡¡¡¡Poverty alleviation and common prosperity is a
long-cherished dream of human being and an unremitting
effort of the human being in pursuit of justice,
equality and fairness. The fight against poverty is a
solemn mandate for all the countries and regions in the
world. The seminar was not only a proof to China¡¯s
active role in honoring its international commitment but
also a contribution to the world poverty reduction.
