Compiling the Poverty Reduction Case Studies in China by IPRCC

17,2005, International Poverty Reduction Center in China
hosted a seminar in Beijing for the compilation of
poverty reduction case in China. Zhang Lei, Managing
Director of IPRCC chaired the seminar. Wang Guoliang,
Deputy Director General of China State Council Leading
Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development
attended the seminar and gave a speech. Officials in
charge of poverty reduction from 25 provinces,
autonomous regions and municipalities joined the event.
Zhang Lei started by introducing the background and
current progress of IPRCC with focus on the program of
poverty reduction case studies in China in terms of its
context, significance and purpose: Since China adopted a
policy of reform and opening-up, its achievements in
poverty reduction has been worldwide recognized. The
program aims to disseminate the successful experiences
gained in China to other developing countries by studies
on about 100 poverty-related cases from various regions
of China. Apart from this purpose, the findings of case
studies shall also be a feedstock for IPRCC in
conducting international exchanges, trainings and
research. Wang Guoliang elaborated on the specific
requirements for the compilation of case studies. Huang
Chengwei, Deputy Director of Foreign Funded Program
Management Center in Guangxi Province was invited to
address the seminar on case study and compilation of
cases.
