Workshop on Poverty Reduction Policy and Practice in Asian
Countries was held in Beijing
The
International Workshop on Poverty Policy and Practice in
Asian countries was held by IPRCC on June 8 in Beijing.
Wang Guoliang, Deputy Director of LGOP presented at the
Opening Ceremony and delivered remarks. Zhang Lei,
Member of the Communist Party in LGOP and Managing
Director of IPRCC hosted the ceremony.
At his remarks to the 60th UN Anniversary Summit of
Fundraising, Chinese President Hu Jintao announced that
the establishment of IPRCC in Beijing was to make the
contribution to poverty reduction worldwide. Apart from
that, he has declared five new measures to enhance
support to other developing countries, one of which is
to train 30 thousand talents for developing countries
within the next 3 years, so as to speed up the
development of these countries. To honor the President¨s
commitment and on the basis of the International
Workshop on Poverty Reduction Experience convened in
December last year, IPRCC held the Asian Workshop on
Poverty Policy and Practice, giving an opportunity for
other countries to learn about the social and economic
development, the agriculture, farmers and rural areas.
This workshop was expected to roll out Chinese
experience and to make its contribution to the
attainment of the MDGs.
The workshop spanned for 15 days, covering topics
ranging from economic and social development in China,
retrospect and prospect of poverty reduction in China,
agrarian issues in China, globalization, growth and
poverty, poverty reduction case studies in rural China
and compulsory education related to poverty reduction,
etc. The resources persons were composed of Zhang Lei,
Member of the Communist Party in LGOP and Managing
Director of IPRCC, Prof. Li Xiaoyun, Humanities and
development Institute of Agriculture University, David
Dollor, Director of China Bureau, World Bank, Ke
Bingsheng, Director of Agricultural Economic Research
Center in the Agricultural Ministry and Wang Xingzui,
Deputy Director General of China Foundation for Poverty
Alleviation. The workshop adopted various forms like
lecturing, experience introduction, case study, field
trip and participatory discussion. The workshop was
participated by 26 representatives from 10 Asian
countries including Georgia, Indonesia, Iran, Laos,
Mongolia and Nepal.
